Concerned Illinois citizens have an important choice to make on February 2nd, 2010. We must choose the Republican nominee for the United States Senate seat once held, albeit briefly and often in absentia, by President Barack Obama. We must choose from an informed position as opposed to letting apathy or the money of D.C. "moderates" decide who wins the primary. Our choice must be ours, not Senator John McCain's or the NRSC's. Our choice, if we want to begin to make a difference should be a Reagan Republican as opposed to an Obama Republican.

We would do well to abandon the flawed yet seemingly permeating logic that suggests that the only way to return this seat to the Republican Party is to avoid Republican values and the Republican Platform. It makes no sense to take issues off the table by nominating one who will share positions with whichever Democrat candidate wins. It makes no sense to support "He Who Must Not Be Nominated" as I and fellow downstate Illinois patriot, Brian Milleville (of www.downstateiladvocate.com) have dubbed Congressman Mark Kirk.

Did the Greatest Generation Beget the Worst Generation?

This is not intended to paint the entire generation that followed the "Greatest Generation" with the same red brush. There are certainly patriotic citizens and those who cherish the liberty our founders established among the offspring of the generation who fought World War II. I am related by blood and by marriage to such patriotic children of the "Greatest Generation".

This is about the groovy hippies who never grew out of that phase. This is about the "peace" and "love" types like Bill Ayers who likely mentored Barack Obama more than he would ever admit to the voting public. This is about those who were born in the forties and went from the university to law school to Congress and soaked up all the Marxist ideology they could along the way. This is about those who went from hippy to Congressional intestinal worm and have infested the Capitol for decades. This is about the likes of George Miller (Dimocrat CA-7), who has been in the House since he was twenty-nine years old in 1974. Thank God all of California isn't the same as San Francisco (of course I thank God all of Illinois isn't the same as Chicago too). It is too bad California doesn't have more representatives like the elder and younger Duncan Hunter!

Obamacare Vote Saturday?

It would appear that Shrieker of the House Pelosi, or "She Who Must Not Blink", is confident she can twist enough arms to get enough votes for her monstrous health care bill this Saturday. Will "Big Brother" Barry send Rahm to the Capitol building deliver a few threats over the next two days? How a bout a dead fish wrapped in one of his tutus?

H.R. 3962 may pass the House after a Saturday evening vote, and one must wonder if the trial lawyers get their kiss (H/T Teri O'Brien)that same evening or do they wait until after Obama is re-elected (Heaven forbid) and has begun a second term? I suppose those of us who wanted the high costs due to medical malpractice lawsuits addressed (in other words, reasonable people) can view this as a means of addressing the issue. Of course this means of address provides states with an incentive to ensure that they do not cap attorney fees or awards.

Parental Notification Law Should be Enforced

Hainesville, IL-Paul Mitchell, candidate for Illinois House Representative in District 62, calls upon his opponent Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake), to use her influence as a State Representative and call on Governor Quinn to direct the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to enforce the Parental Notification Law that was passed in 1995.

Parental notification is required to give a child an aspirin at school; if a teenager attempts to buy a gun; or tries to get ears pierced.  Certainly, abortion is just as serious a decision to make as any of those.  This law, passed in 1995, has never been implemented due to a variety of obstacles.  But now the obstacles have been cleared, the courts have upheld the law, the rules for judicial bypass written, and it only remains for the state government to put the law into effect.

One Less Enemy of the Unborn in the U.S. House?

73wire.com, which will officially launch on November 4, 2009, is reporting that Margaret Sanger Award winning, Card Check supporting ridiculous excuse for a Republican, DeDe Scazzafava is dropping out of the race to represent NY-23! I cannot help but wonder if Newt regrets getting off the sofa he shared with Nancy Pelosi in that commercial advocating for the Enviro-Statist, to support this miserable candidate?

If this bears out and the real Republican, Doug Hoffman, wins the special election will other state Republican Parties or the National Republican Party get the message? I doubt it, especially not here in Illinois, where the NRSC and John McCain are rewarding Mark Kirk's vote for Cap and Trade with their support, financial resources, and political power as they purchase his status as front-runner to win the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Roland "Monument to Myself" Burris.

If nothing else, the U.S. House will be losing one disgustingly pro-abortion member in Mark Kirk and that mantle won't be picked up by another disgustingly pro-abortion "moderate"... at least not DeDe! Sorry Speaker Gingrich, better luck next time.

Healthcare, Deficits, & Durbin

Mad Max Baucus, the healthcare reform Road Warrior, received a favor from the CBO and now appears to be set to Rahm the bill through. Who doubts that Rahm the erstwhile ballerina twisted a few arms after the CBO originally declined to play Obamaball? By the way, if you are inclined to read "the bill" that isn't a bill when there are criticisms of it, you can read the text "Chairman's Mark - America's Healthy Future Act of 2009". Give a pile of dung a positive sounding title and you are more likely to sell it.

How does the CBO come up with the assertion that the non-bill, bill will not add to the deficit? Well it seems that a little meeting at The White House can go a long way toward giving people a rosy outlook on the future. A little tutu tug by the dead fish sending ballerina/chief of staff and even those tasked with analyzing likely costs can see things in a whole new light.

The CBO now sees that if Obama is followed without question, anything is possible. We can maintain required hydration and never need a rainy day. We can drive endless miles and never incurr a need for maintenance. We can make wishes and expect they will come true. We can assume that employers will continue to provide health insurance benefits despite the incentives to discontinue the practice.

How About an ACLU Green Abortion Omnibus Bill?

With the electorate distracted by the sleazy sales pitch for socialized rationed healthcare (aka: reform), some important issues might be somewhat neglected. While "Big Brother" Barry continues his onslaught on liberty and does his best to read reassuring counterpoints to his actions, who is looking out for the child molester? Although President Obama has his mindless minions watching for "suspicious" reports on healthcare (those that offer facts or videos of various libtard pols stating their actual intentions), which can be conveniently e-mailed to "Big Brother" Barry's telescreen monitors at flag@whitehouse.gov... who is carrying the global warming, er.. climate change water?

Now is the time for all good "moderates" or centrists" to sharpen their electoral teeth and bite off a piece of the action. I suggest that Rep. Mark Steven Kirk (RINO - IL -10), who the NRSC is pushing for the Senate consult with noted "centrist" sage Christie Todd Whitman. Mrs. Whitman can train young Mark in the ways of the "centrist". Once the crash course in conservative crushing is completed, Kirk should author a bill with Mrs. Whitman's input, of course, that solves the very difficult problems that face the liberal voters whom the RINO (or Neo-Statist h/t Mark Levin) court so ardently. The bill is crucial, but first things first. What can young grasshopper Kirk learn from the wise Whitman? WaPo's Chris Cilliza, in his The Fix points to the message, "Christie Whitman's Centrist Plea".

It has been revealed that Rep. Mark Kirk (IL-10) will be officially announcing his candidacy for U.S. Senate Monday. Observers will surely note that Congressman Kirk has finally decided that the competition he feared is definitely going to sit this election cycle out, so it is time to take the bold plunge.

Kirk is going to be the Republican front-runner and will likely receive support from the NRSC, assuming they believe less liberal will beat more liberal in the fall of 2010. Supporting Mark Kirk for Senate is apparently the "pragmatic" thing to do, at least according to CQ Politics' Bob Benenson (and some who comment on Illinois Review.)

Will G.E. Profit From Obama's War?

General Electric has become a detestable entity and I would recommend that when given a choice, one refrain from purchasing any product or service associated with the once great company. As if it wasn't bad enough that the"news" division works so hard on behalf of Obama's assault on liberty, or that with the help of Tom Daschle, G.E. hopes to have a monopoly on America's medical records, I read today that they have hit a new low. From The Wall Street Journal:

GE to Obtain Stem Cells From Geron For Research

Biotech company Geron Corp. agreed to provide stem cells to General Electric Co.'s GE Healthcare for use in tools that will test for the toxic effects of drug treatments, a move that takes GE further into stem-cell research.

The agreement marks the first time that a company of GE's stature and size has announced a business venture involving the controversial field of embryonic stem cells. That could reflect a more tolerant climate for the technology in the wake of the Obama administration's recent relaxation of restrictions on embryonic stem-cell research.

Did I mention that the war to which I refer in the subject of this post is Obama's war on the unborn? I suppose it is comforting that G.E. isn't partnering with Planned Parenthood to experiment on and potentially profit from aborted babies at various stages of development... yet. You might be thinking that G.E. might be doing this to help keep the MSNBC talent happy, given the stories about Keith Olbermann's "short-comings", but you would be wrong. Anyway, Rachel Madcow is man enough for both of them.

The Sexting Indicator

Today's on-line version of The Telegraph has the first of two articles about the problem of “sexting”.Kathie Bassett writes in "'Sexting' common among teens" sub-title "Educators struggle to control trend":

"Sexting" is the act of sending a nude photo or video of oneself or an explicit text message to another person's cell phone.

These photos have a tendency to be forwarded by the recipient to many other people, often without the knowledge of the person who sent the image. Sometimes, as many as 50 other people might see an image the same day it is sent to the intended recipient.

Of course this phenomenon is an indicator and a product of the depths to which society has fallen. It should surprise no one that the generators of the problem now seek (more government) ways in which to cope with it. More from Ms. Bassett's piece:
